It will clearly be marked on the label with the copy control logo and information box if it is - you can't miss it, it's a rectangular graphic about 2" x 1".

This copy protection really sucks...I've got a mp3 player and how should i listen to silence is easy on my way to school without ripping the cd?! Well, to crack the copy protection was to much work for me, so i leeched the cd from winmx
Of course i bought it a few days later, but only the vinyl! I like vinyl much more than those boring CDs and until CDs will be sold without copy protection, i won't buy them because i think it's not fair that i'm not allowed to listen to the CDs on my mp3 player.
What does this copy protection really change? Nothing! I can still ripp the CD, it's slower, but it works (recording it from cd player...with good cd player and soundcard the quality is still fine Very Happy ) it's only harder for me to use the cd in a quite normal way without any criminal intentions! And if i want to download it from the internet....mhmh...there are still enough guys who did the same and are sharing those files...I think this bloody copy protection is excessive...
Well, i'll continue listening to my loved vinyl's and won't think any longer about this cold and boring CDs :-p
*turning on my turntable* *searching "love is here"* *found it* *enjoying* Very Happy Very Happy

Which is why the UK record label who I work for and who provide this particular message board service are concerned at people having experiences like this and made the decision in the UK not to copy protect the UK copies of Silence Is Easy because it interfered with music fans' normal enjoyment of their purchase in different formats, which they fully undestand people wish to do.

You really need to bring this to the attention of the German label on their message board as it is them that made the decision to copy protect European copies. Here we fully understand your plight and sympathise with the problem. If you want to return the copy protected version you have and get a UK version instead which won't be copy protected, let me know and I'll recommend some reliable on-line resources to do that. You can also download legal copies of the tracks through EMI's own legitimate download site - it costs you money, but the files are reliable and slightly less expensive if you choose to use an MP3 player. I'll dig the details out tomorrow, I really need to get to bed now.

Actually, if you read page 1 of this topic, it's all in there.

well, no need to do this, because i didn't buy the CD...i've only the vinyl and i'm satisified with it Very Happy
But i think it's not ok that i've to pay twice, one time for the cd (or the cover...) and then for downloading the tracks to use them on my portable device... Confused

But in case of starsailor there isn't really a problem, because i like vinyls much more than CDs and if i can choose between cd and vinyl, i will always choose the vinyl...And for my mp3 player i leeched the files...maybe it's illegal, but what much more important is, that i supported starsailor by buying the vinyl and so i've got a clear conscience Very Happy

I certainly wasn't recommending that you did buy it twice, I was suggesting the download version as an alternative format. If you were only buying the CD in order to rip the tracks to play on an MP3 player, downloading the legal tracks might be a better alternative as it's slightly cheaper than the CD. I thought you had bought the CD initially, hence your complaint about CD copy protection - I was suggesting that you either return it and buy a UK non-protected version ~ or ~ download legitimate files for your portable player - or to burn to CD - instead.

EMI make the download versions available for people who like to use portable devices and have no particular reason to need a CD hard copy - they're well aware that people have their own preferences for their favoured formats, which is why they also offer it on vinyl even though it's very cost inefficient to do so - but they know some people prefer it.

I think they offer a pretty fair range of formats; download MP3s, CD or vinyl. I think that should cover most people's preferences.

They've thought of that too - they provide high resolution graphics as part of the download, for you to print your own. Granted, I don't actually know if that's all of the sleeve booklet information, but there's certainly graphics available to print as part of the deal. I'll ask for clarification when I speak to the label next week.
