Hi,
This is my first post on here, hello everyone, please be nice to the newbie!
Just wanted to say how fantastic Starsailor were at the Summer Sonic festival in Osaka last night. It was the first time I had seen them live, and they put on a great show. It was sooooo great!!!!! They were one of the best bands there.
I assume not many people here were actually over here in Japan for the festival so if you have any questions about it please feel free to ask - I'll tell you anything I can remember, although its becoming a bit of a sweaty blur in my mind!
Also, not sure if the band ever see this, but just wanted to reassure Stel that it wasn't some loony (well, actually maybe I am) shouting about his local - I live near his parents and was just chuffed to see someone else from my area as far away as Japan! |

Hi new person! Don't worry. We're really nice here. Glad you enjoyed their performance in Japan. Do tell more about it, if you have the time and feel like it. I love reviews! That festival you went to, was that the huge festival with the AWSOME lineup? Who else did you manage to see? Were they good? You didn't miss Interpol, did ya? DID YA? _________________ This is a lie.

a friend of mine went to Summer Sonic, and he didn't even know Blur.
so there's no way he knows Starsailor...
I wanted to ask him what they were like!!!
I'd like a review, too!
speaking of Interpol, they are coming to Dublin |

They are awsome! "Certain" people have said that they don't function good on stage, but I love them. If you're going, have a blast. Notice Carlos's funky bass movies. He's all over the stage, it's amazing. Paul is really energetic too - notice how he kneels down and plays the guitar like there's no tomorrow. Paul - his voice just mesmarizes me. Eric, cool as cats and Sam, brilliant drummer. There's really nothing bad about them
Uhm,, back to the Starsailor theme _________________ This is a lie.

Thanks.
Yes, Interpol is GREAT. Their album is among the best I own.
Aherm, names you say. Let me be of some assistance (you'd wish you'd never asked)
Daniel Kessler, guitarist, VERY nice guy.
Carlos Dengler, bass, nice guys and "sex on legs"
Paul Banks, singer, guitarist, nice guy too
Eric Altesleben, keyboarder on tour, he's really cool.
Sam something-something, guy on left, drummer, he's nice but a bit quiet though.
You should definitely go and see them. They have the best songs! _________________ This is a lie.

Hello,
Thanks for all the replies!!! Erm, sorry but yes I did miss Interpol - had I known they were meant to be good I would maybe have gone but I was watching Blondie on the outdoor stage... sorry!!!!! Argh!!!!
On the Saturday I saw the Living End, Blondie, part of Good Charlotte and the Elephant Kashimashi (just cos they were on in between things), Stereophonics, the Strokes and Radiohead. All these were on the outdoor stage. Debbie Harry was looking a bit old, but they put on a great performance. The Strokes were really great - the singer was drunk and starting singing My Way in Japanese! LOL! They played most of the album and a couple of new songs. Great atmosphere - he knew how to get the crowd going. Radiohead were also fantastic - Thom Yorke was dancing around like a schizophrenic alien robot elf and got so out of breath that he had to wait before staring a couple of songs! A complete mixture of old and new stuff. I was disappointed with Stereophonics though - the music sounded good but they were so miserable and obviously didn't want to be there. Poor show. I had been going to see the Polyphonic Spree but they were on dead early and I didn't get up in time!!!
On the Sunday I saw The Kills, Starsailor and Travis in the indoor stage and then the last 45 mins of Blur on the outdoor stage (don't know whose stupid idea it was to put Travis and Blur on at the same time!!!) Starsailor were absolutely amazing. I really loved the set. A couple of new songs (sorry don't remember the names) but mostly the stuff from the album. I wish I had a set-list actually cos I am hopeless at remembering songs after a gig! I just dance and sing away and enjoy it, and then afterwards I think erm... what did they play again? But the security guards were mean and evil so there was no chance of a set-list! I remember they didn't do Lullaby though, which I was disappointed about, and not Love is Here either, but they did do PMG and Alcoholic and Good Souls and Tie Up My Hands. Sorry my memory isn't any better! They played a really lively set and got the crowd going. James was speaking a bit of Japanese (ok just Thank You etc, but it was a nice effort!) They seemed to be enjoying themselves. I hadn't seen them play live before but it was quite a bit rockier than the recorded tracks, but I assume this is normal for them. They didn't say all that much, but not everyone does in another country. Travis also were really cool - they played a rockier set and started jumping around and kissing each other!? Fran was going on about peace and love and it was rather sweet really. Blur were also great of course - I wish I had got to see the whole set. Again a mixture of new and old.
The only thing that put a damper on it was the poor crowd management/organisation. The 2 main stages were 10 - 15 mins walk apart, through a car park and along a road so you didn't really get that big festival feel you do in the UK. The security guards and festival staff knew absolutely nothing re where things were etc, and didn't have any radios to talk to each other. They made a huge show only letting a certain number of people into the moshpit but then I still almost got crushed during the Strokes - I love being down at the front but have never seen anything as bad as that. They were only letting people in and out between bands so people were moving in opposite directions at the same time and also it was enclosed within wire fencing so in the event of a crush it was really hard to get out. If they had just let people do thir own thing instead of trying to organise everything it would've been safer and easier! The indoor stage where Starsailor played was a bit better in that respect, but I would rather have had a marquee than a big warehouse type room!!! And yes it was HOT!!!! About 35 degrees plus humidity and I went and stood in direct sunlight all day and got really burnt - doh!!!!
Hope this isn't too long - wasn't sure what people wanted to know!!! |

Ah, GREAT review. So many bands, so little time! I'm really jealous that you get to see The Strokes. I've been wanting to see them for ages. *sending come-to-denmark-thoughts! They MUST!". Glad you had a lovely time. I can't belive Fran started on his hippie/freedom talk again. He did that when I saw him as well. They are so sweet... Too bad about the security, but perhaps they will have learned their lesson to next year! _________________ This is a lie.

I saw Interpol yesterday.
They were brilliant.
I like their guitar; really good sound.
the venue was not really good though. stage was too low.
I was impressed with the guitarist's sideburns |

I was there in Osaka too! I can recall Nicole shouting out and it's quite fun to see the band's reaction, especially Stelfox's look. hee hee....
One of the highlight was James singing a U2 song out of nowhere. Gee now I can't recall which one that was. I think it was because Ben is trying to fix something on the drum? And he is trying to make sure we are okay.
Now that I've listened to the new album, it's easier to identified what news songs were played. They started with "Music was saved" and then of course "Silence is easy" and "Four to the floors" were played. The singles that were not played include "Fever" and "Lullaby".
