I bought "Silence Is Easy" at 9am this morning. I have now listened to it 6 times. Although i'm aware of talk of this record being a 'grower', I have to say that I think the quality of the songs on this album are mediocre at times. It's an opportunity missed, a glorious chance wasted. This could have been the album whihc proved the doubters wrong, instead it's a reason to hate them.
Not that it doesn't have it's high points, in fact, I'd say that "Music Was Saved", "Some Of Us", "Silence Is Easy" and "Born Again" are better than anything on "Love Is Here". These are songs which strike you with there power straight away, the power of Walsh's voice hits just like it did the first time you heard "Fever". They are filled with either a kinetic energy of vibrancy or a rare beauty of expression.
But aside from these songs, "Silence Is Easy" is forgettable in the extreme, filled with good ideas badly executed, like "Four To The Floor" or the could've been great "Bring My Love" or songs simply below standard. Listen to "Shark Food", a song stretching one already weak idea and spreading it very thinly. Or tracks like "Fidelity", pleasant enough, but a song which belongs on a B-Side or a fanclub only released.
I still like this record, and I still love Starsailor, but after "Love Is Here" an album very much as a building block for greater things to come, I only wanted something more. _________________ "Maybe I'm better looking than you.

You want to be careful. Never overuse exclamation marks. They lose their power after a bit. _________________ "Maybe I'm better looking than you.

Sod off . This album, from the little I've listened to it (about 2/3 times) is just great. If you wanted a 2nd Love is Here then tough titties basically, listen to Love is Here if you want Love is Here.
Telling Them is the one that immediately stood out for me. Shark Food is almost a dancey kind of track (look at their choice of a DJ for support for part of their tour), it's a refreshingly different type of song on the album. Four to the Floor is one of the highlights, the beat is great, reminds me of that old Dr Dre song for some reason.
Have you seen them play this new stuff? They're so passionate about it, it's contagious. Roll on next Monday night.
I'm sure they'll lose and gain fans with this album, I predict they'll gain more than they lose though. We all have different opinions, I love it already. Live in the past with your albums if that's what you choose
Man alive Silence is Easy just started playing _________________ She has trouble acting normal when she's nervous. |

Bring My Love- my favourite track on the alum.
Shark Food- takes some time to get into, yes, but I don't dislike it.
Fidelity- a grower.
Overall, a very good album by Starsailor. Don't see what the problem is. |

Forget the words, sing them yourself a bit and listen to the music. Then you start to see just how good these tracks are. It takes a while but just turn off the lights, lie down and really listen. It's a great album and hearing these songs live next week is going to be really, really good. Wonder if they'll have a string section with them? |

Well Joe, nowt wrong with giving your opinion likes! Sorry you don't like the album as much as Love Is Here. I have to say I was a bit disappointed at first - especially Born Again, because once you've seen it live, the album version seems so tame.
Having said that, the album is definitely growing on me.
I really think you should go see them live though Joe, they really give it their all when they're on the road. That's when they really come into their own.

I think you'll find that Joe has an impressive record for seeing Starsailor live, going back much longer than most of us and is well aware of what they can do with the tracks live. _________________ Keeper of Good Souls Interactive the official fan archive at Starsailor.net
