Just got back...right ear still ringing!
Great gig. I saw them last time at Brixton in 2005 but this was so much better being only a couple of metres from the band in such an intimate venue. (Damn I forgot my camera) It was a great set from the acoustic numbers at the start through to the four to the floor remix.
The audience were great and my daughter (13) really enjoyed it aswell. (apart from when that prat of a woman pushed her way to the front not giving a damn about who she shoved around in the process...I nearly floored her but i think she got the message and moved away again.)
Got to say though james looks older, hairy'er and has grown a little. Perhaps he shouldn't have gone for that chinese first!...I thought he was a roadie when I first saw him come on. |

Yes, it was good. My first Starsailor experience and I enjoyed it. I dipped out early just as they were doing the (?) Primal Scream cover, to make sure I caught the train home. It re-inforced my belief that SS need to be a bit more hard-edged and bitter-coated to truly win my heart but so far, so damn good. Plus why does James change guitars every song? Do they need re-tuning?
I did not like Northampton however. My view of it as a truly awful place was confirmed and, sorry if I offend anyone here, some awful people too. I ran into some proper malcontents in the town and even some people in the gig were right arses. "Excuse me, you're standing in my view." Well, duh, this is a gig, that's what happens, get a concert seat next time, my friend.
8/10 from me.

Absolutetely crackin gig! James may try and hide it with that facial hair, but his dimples were well in evidence as he smiled his way through the set!.
LOTS of launches into other songs - he did Jealous Guy acoustically, and I caught snatches of Amzing Grace, Dancing Queen and S club 7, amongst several others. Great banter ith the crowd.
The "disco" refrain of Four to the Floor was superb!
He answered the "when is the album due out" question too - spring - with a single before that "if it isnt spring blame EMI - they are here tonight"
Good to say hin to Q-Nick, and to meet theano as well!
Great night _________________ www.myspace.com/alrklein |

A great gig again ! I was with Q-Nick this time, we enjoyed together at the front . I also met Arklein from the forum .
Back to the gig... James performed 5 songs acoustic, and 11 with the band. The setlist, from my memory:
Acoustic set:
Fever
Lullaby
Jealous Guy (again, he he!)
This Time
All The Plans We Made (the tour manager gave me the title of this new song)
Electric set:
Poor Misguided Fool
Alcoholic
Fidelity
In The Crossfire
Boy In Waiting (very good !)
Four To The Floor
Tell Me It's Not Over (lovely !)
Tie Up My Hand
Keep Us Together
Good Souls
Silence Is Easy, the encore !
By the way, met the boys after the show. We waited for them with Nick. Very nice guys, but we already knew . Took pics and videos, as usual. You could see them soon .
On my way to Bath now. |

PJC - I think you may have been behind me - I was right at the front, and that girl was pushing me until she buggered off. Sorry about my jumping!
Small venue - around 800 people.
I queued from 4pm. TheAno joined me around 5.30. Others started turning up at 6.30. I had the front row dead centre spot, though seeing as theano came from France I let her have it, though I was hardly off centre too.
Scars on 45 are enthusiastic and an enjoyable support band.
'Fever' really got the crowd going, same for 'Lullaby' - though with the confusing nature of the verses it was interesting to hear people sing dfferent lines here and there. Typically most people didn't know the OTO songs.
This Time works better acoustic than electric.
'Jealous Guy' was good - full band acoustic would have been awesome.
'All the plans that we made' was very good from first impressions.
The electric set is all killer - 'In My Blood', such a stomping opener for the 2006 shows, is nowhere to be seen, and it doesn't affect the show.
PMF---> Alcoholic is always a joy, and such a staple. Barry started the intro rather quickly after the opener, and that kept up momentum.
'Boy In Waiting' is acoustic, with mere percussion from Ben (Bass Drum + Tambourine). Sounded great.
'Tell Me It's Not Over' just rocks. The lines have changed since it's early performances - once the mid section went 'take me slowly' several times, not so anymore.
The final four songs need no comment.
James shook hands with the front row after 'Good Souls', and handed me his plectrum. Stel followed suite.
'Dancing Queen', 'Don't Stop Moving' and 'Moving on up' were all sang in their normal places.
--------------
4th album : - James said Spring looks likely. If it isn't out by then, it is EMI's fault - representatives were there last night.
The sessions have really accelerated in pace I'm told.

Absolutely fantastic gig! This was my 1st Starsailor gig even though I have been a fan from the beginning (too busy bringing up kids) and they didn't dissapoint.
Met them after the show and had pics taken - lovely, down-to-earth guys. Lovely to meet Nick and Theano too - hope you both have safe journeys home.
Hope to do it all again soon!! |
