Who is this 'they'? |
Viacom cleared out my youtube account last time around, they said 'they believed the material (a short recording of Goodsouls) is infringing on someone else's material'..... Didn't actually realise you could do that... thought it had to be the person who owned the material to claim if it was infringing or not... |

Viacom - is that who runs YouTube - will have terms and conditions of the service and if you upload material on which you personally don't own the various copyrights, then you're infringing your terms of use of the account, so on that basis they will remove the content. Otherwise they might find themselves as one of the parties stung with legal action, for not enforcing their own terms. I've used that approach many times to close down accounts that have stolen my material, if they don't remove it after several requests and deadlines to do so. Hosts usually close such accounts within a handful of hours.
YouTube have apparently been under a lot of pressure from US TV stations and the like and have got much more timely in removing offending materials. So if YouTube decide to remove the media they'd be perfectly within their rights, even if I allow the link to remain here.
Apologies Goodsoulette, I never thought you might actually be referring to YouTube, I assumed initially that was a dig at me.

I uploaded many small video clips I recorded during the gigs I attended on Youtube. Never had any problem... yet . I don't upload unreleased stuff though without asking the band (or their management), directly or via email or Myspace  .
As I told Boo once, the border between what is allowed and what is not is very thin. |
