I keep dipping in an out of the photos a few at a time, as I've been in and out today and not had much time at my desk the last couple of days, but it looks gorgeous and they're a lovely set of photos. I'll look at the rest shortly and am looking forward to it. Actually I can't just now, I clicked for the next one and it's down for maintenance, so I'll check back later. _________________ Keeper of Good Souls Interactive the official fan archive at Starsailor.net

Wow, how fabulous, I've never seen them that close, only if we were in a cable car or chair lift and passing them on the ground below.
What do you call them; chamois? We always call them by the local Swiss name of gämse. My parents are near Lauterbrunnen at the moment and they rang a couple of nights ago and Dad was watching two Steinbock mothers (through his telescope) with young climbing up the rocks of the valley side. He said they were licking at something leaking out of the rocks after the rain, must be some minerals they need or like the taste of.
There aren't many gämses there now as they had become a real problem to farmers, eating all their crops, so they were rounded up and moved out of the area, so the Steinbock are flourishing as they don't come down off the rock face.
Gosh, I miss Switzerland. _________________ Keeper of Good Souls Interactive the official fan archive at Starsailor.net

There not chamois, but bouquetins (Ibex in english ???), they were at least 30 or 40, that was totally amazing !!! I had never seen them so close before, but here they didn't seem to be afraid at all ...
I forgot to say that we were climbing the "Grand Veymont" in the french Alps at 9:00am when we had this good surprise ! _________________ Turn your head to face the sun

Ah yes, I see now, they're what I was referring to as Steinbock - the Apline Ibex. I dug out some of my Dad's photos of gämse and realise they have the striped faces, which yours above don't of course. I'd forgotten that difference - and of course they're smaller than the Ibex - and mature males can grown huge horns. _________________ Keeper of Good Souls Interactive the official fan archive at Starsailor.net
