Dont know whether you fancy having a wildlife topic, but I thought this news story was great to hear.

The spectacular ivory-billed woodpecker, which was declared extinct in 1920, has been found alive in North America

That's great news to hear!

Hopefully, that article will help make people realise that we gotta do something about the alarming rate of species going extinct every year. Also it gives us hope that if we're careful, we should be able to live along side wildlife without causing harm to it.

Another heart-warming wildlife story was covered on the BBC regional news last night about a deer fawn that was rejected by its mother as it was a twin and they normally only have one baby. Staff rescued it and put it in the house with the dogs and they'd adopted it - the footage of this deer fawn with great long gangly legs chasing round playing with the dogs was totally fabulous, they were all licking each others faces and all seemingly totally blissful - the end of the footage showed them all in a heap asleep in front of the fire with a ginger cat in the middle of it too.

I love this thread.
I'm so happy about the ivory-billed woodpecker.
I've seen Pileated Woodpeckers a few times when I go hiking in the woods and I'm telling ya, what a sight to see, what a beautiful thing. Breathtaking.

We get woodpeckers in our backyard, but their just plain brown ones. We have a family of bluejays who've nested in our trees.

I get downy woodpeckers on my birdfeeder. Black and white with red spots on the back of the head. I'm going to start taking pictures instead of just talking about this!

I think blue jays are beautiful birds, I get them as well. Horrible, frightful cry they make, though.

Mockingbirds are one of my favorites. Not the most beautiful or striking bird to look at, but amazing, versatile singers. Aptly, they're Tennesse's official state birds, whatever that may mean. Do you get them that far north, Clairebert?

What a good topic, and such a lovely story about the 'Elvis'! Let's hope they find more so-believed extinct animals out there (but maybe not a T-rex!).

Its a pretty common practice amongst duck breeders to set duck eggs under a broody hen, we used to do it pretty often, however one year it happened the otherway, somehow a hen's egg got into a duck nest. The mother had 4 ducklings and a chicken!

We had to resque the chicken before the mother duck decided it was time for a swimming lesson.

Some little garden wildlife for you - the spotted avenger!

I just popped into the garden and spotted a ladybird on a leaf and as I'd seen some greenfly on my only rose this morning, I moved it to the aphid-ridden leaf for some dinner. I'd only been reading while I ate my lunch about how voracious a ladybird's appetite was for aphids, from a place that sell them (£15 quid for 30), but my goodness they can't half put them away. These were taken with my little camera as it will focus from an inch away, although it was very breezy and the leaf was on the move the whole time.

When I put the ladybird on the leaf the underside must have had a hundred or more aphids on it, I've just been back out and he's on the last couple on an adjacent leaf. He's had them all, he must be fit to burst!

No, I don't think so, my mom's an avid birdwatcher and when I asked her she said that she doesn't think so.

During the summer we get jays, woodpeckers, cardinals, doves, swallows. We also get, once in a while, hummingbirds, but not vey colourful ones.

Love the pictures Boo. I know two years ago in Barrie, the town I live in, was having an infestation of ladybirds, but they were very agressive ones, they would bite you. It was surprisingly painful.
