My 6'6" neighbour who went up a ladder yesterday and fixed my roof. I owe that man several beers.
He was holding the ladders when Mr Boo went to look at the damage to see if it was fixable but wasn't tall enough to reach the problem area, so the neighbour said he'd do it and with a joint effort in fashioning some brackets and finding the right length of nails etc. we managed to fix the area that was leaking after a storm last week - on which the insurance won't cover as the wind wasn't recorded as strong enough. It appears they now have a limit on weather related claims and check against a database for your postcode. The wind needs to be 55mph to cover wind damage! Ours on the date of the damage had a maximum of 23mph. Apparently. _________________ Keeper of Good Souls Interactive the official fan archive at Starsailor.net

In all fairness, this is the first time we've struck out on insurance.
When we were flooded in a freak storm at the same time of year about 5 years ago, everything was covered and more without question - they even suggested that we claimed for more than we'd intended doing - the loss adjusted pointed out damage that wasn't on the claim that he thought could be.
But the blanket rule on average wind speed is plain silly, there's no way the wind that took several tiles off my roof and snapped branches off trees and littered my garden with small branches, leaves and my neighbour's washing was only 23mph and even if it averaged that, it only takes one extra gust to do significant damage. It's forecast for very windy again tomorrow, so I hope the repair holds. I'm also concerned about a significant new split along a large branch of the biggest tree just outside the garden, it's not going to take much to finish the job. _________________ Keeper of Good Souls Interactive the official fan archive at Starsailor.net

We are luckier than you, Boo. In Paris, the weather is sunny and warm (not too hot today) !
Hope everything will go well. Fingers crossed for the repair and the rest ! |

Holidays never last long enough. I'm back now from Athens (went for a family holiday for my mum's 50th). The city was lovely, those that live there really friendly and €10 for 7 days of travel on the trams, metro (underground) and buses, so cheap and reliable! Shame about this country! Only wish is that I could have stayed out there longer - but isn't that how all holidays end? |
