I hate the cynical way the NME always try and turn positive news into some sort of dig at the band. They were sent:

Quote:
Starsailor have just finished a run of support dates with The Rolling Stones and are now working on the eagerly anticipated follow up to 2005's 'On The Outside'

and they turn that into:

Quote:
The group, who last released an album in 2005, will play acoustic and electric sets to promote Fairtrade.

In the NME's defence, the stories they write aren't aimed at fans of the band and the story might well have evoked a "not seen them around for ages" amoungst readers. I dunno, I just don't think what they put was a dig - it is the truth and its relevent to the story which will be read by a huge amount of people.

They have already written about the progress of the new record on nme.com (and linked several times to posts on the myspace page) where they reference it as 'the follow up to 2005's On The Outside'. I think you'll find the same journalistic style across most the articles on their website, if it be about Robbie Williams, Arcade Fire or Starsailor.

Also, the reason for me actually post, haha, taken from the Lancashire Evening Post - http://www.lep.co.uk/entertainment?articleid=3006382

Is Preston actually a place? not just a Big Brother contestant. Really it ridiculous if it farther north or farther east than Brizzle, its like I just dont have a clue.l

About NME, i subscribe to their magazine and read it from cover to cover.

I find where they can, they do put in digs about Starsailor too often for my liking, enough for me to put pen to paper (or e-mail) telling them to stop slagging of Starsailor or i would unsubscribe. They printed it! I did say that James had one of the best voices in the business but i suspect it may have been something to do with me saying that i would have his babies any day..... but that was just a take on Natasha Beddingfields new song - honest!!

i still subscribe though, they will write something positive soon or i will write a rant next time!!

I'm not saying that the NME never make digs, because they do, but you have to remember there are lots of different people working there with differing opinions on all the bands.

The Fratellies get a hard time as well, worse than starsailor, but were also one of the bands to get on the nme tour this year. Cherry Ghosts album got a 4/10 last week and on nme.com yesterday it was put forward as one of the albums they think should be up for the Mecury Music Prize - the NME is a collective effort and thats why one band might get a fantastic review one week and a slating the next.

All I was saying is that I didn't feel what was written above was a dig.

Was it you whose letter got the response "why do you still care about Starsailor anyway?" (or similar) a few weeks ago?

Hi Kleines, yes that was the letter, i did'nt particularly like the reply either!!

Yes i have noticed that some reviewers on nme do like Starsailor but it just seemed lately they were getting a raw deal.

Who wrote the reply, Tim Chester? I tried to find that copy of the NME but couldn't. When it was printed I did wonder if it had been written by someone on here.
